In brief: Simona Aebersold, Junior World Champion Sprint (SUI)

Simone Aebersold born 13 April 1998, lives in Brügg and is a club member of ol.biel.seeland (SUI) and Tampereen Pyrintö (FIN) and won the sprint gold medal at JWOC 2015. Simona is the daughter of Christian Aebersold, three times relay gold medal winner for Switzerland in 1991, 1993 and 1995.

Are you happy with your winter training?
Everything went well with my winter training.

What do you prefer: winning a gold medal once or the bronze medal twice at JWOC 2016?
That's a difficult question. Of course, winning a gold medal is something very special and I would really like to experience that moment a second time. By winning a gold medal one has to be the best of all the women in W20. That’s why it would be great to win gold again, but of course, I would also be content with winning two bronze medals. However, my goal for the coming JWOC is to win one medal no matter what colour.

What does Simone Niggli, the Director of the Organising committee, mean to you personally?
Simone is simply a great orienteer to whom I can look up to. I really appreciate her commitment for JWOC 2016 and also for leading trainings at the national training centre in Bern and we juniors can benefit from her involvement.

In five years I’m …
My goal is to have qualified for the elite national team in 2019 and therefore be able to compete internationally such as in the World Cup.

What I also would like to mention:
I am really looking forward to running in those beautiful areas around Scuol and meeting other juniors from all over the world again
